My Vision
I believe that accessibility is a human right worth fighting for. More than that, it’s a pillar of success and development: the community that has the resources to destroy oppressive barriers and build a more inclusive environment for everyone is far more successful in my eyes than the community that keeps its resources allocated to the select few.
The Ideals
Access: If it’s inaccessible, it’s unacceptable.
Allies: “What hurts the victim most is not the cruelty of the oppressor but the silence of the bystander.” -Elie Wiesel
The people who have the most power in the fight for disabled rights are our able-bodied allies. Until the masses change the standard for what is acceptable for all of us, some of us will continue to be excluded.
Why subscribe?
Since becoming disabled myself, creating resources and advocating for people like me has been my full time job. I create these resources to help people, so I never want to keep that content behind a paywall. I am fully self funded: through private investors (my charitable husband), art sales, and hiring me for training or consultation services.
Access and Allies is a for profit organization and does not receive any grants or charitable funding. Your subscription helps me do more. Thank you for supporting my mission.
Faith Statement
I try to be respectful of those with religious trauma in my spaces, however, this is a faith based safe space. While I identify as a Christian and will reference the Christian bible in relevant conversation, I am gutted by the way many people weaponize the faith that I cherish.
A lawyer asked Jesus a question, testing Him, and saying, “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
---
LOVE is the principle by which we are to interpret the Law. Jesus’s love is intersectional. It’s unconditional.
Any and all posts regarding religion, faith, or spirituality in any sense will be tagged #faith so that readers may blacklist any posts that they may find triggering. However, if and when someone becomes ready, I encourage the curious to see if they can find healing in my understanding of the Christian religion, and why so many have a twisted view of the real message.
